Allyship and Social Justice for Teens
  • Learn what it means to be an ally who cares about social justice in this talk with author Nadine Williams. For Grades 7-12. Session is hosted live on Zoom.
Nadine Williams is a Jamaican Canadian who credits her success to a childhood spent reading under kerosene oil lamps to her family in St. Mary, Jamaica, and has been an active member of Canada’s diverse Afro Caribbean community for the last twelve years. She is an award-winning Poet-Author-Arts Educator, and her published works include five books: three poetry and two children’s stories, twelve Black History Month posters as well as Multicultural Perspectives, the academic journal of the National Association for Multicultural Education, Central Connecticut State University, and cited in a doctoral thesis. Over the last twelve years, she has used her own challenges in life as the catalyst to inspire and ignite hope in others through the power of her pen. Her journey into entrepreneurship began in the construction industry in 2007, and has continued with a marriage commitment to her pen in 2008.

On any given day you can find her reading poetry, installing artwork, delivering keynotes, mentoring or facilitating workshops in schools, community, and for the government, both at home and internationally. She is the recipient of York Regional Police’ Deeds Speak Award and has several certificates of recognition from all levels of Government as well as universities, and received Parliamentary mention in 2019. She also writes commissioned poems for The Caribbean Consular Corps, and regularly participates on invite in CIC citizenships ceremonies, singing "Oh Canada," reciting her poem "The Immigrant Child" and being a part of the welcome procession. This Distinguished Poet has guest lectured at local universities and recently at The University of Vienna, Austria and can now add Presidential Poet to a growing list of titles, having opened for Mrs. Obama, Prime Minister Trudeau, the Jamaican Prime Minister and read on invite at Queen’s Park multiple times.
