New Teen Lounge at Pierre Berton Resource Library

Bookmark and Share

Pierre Berton Resource Library is building a new teen lounge and construction is well underway. With Emily Carr High School and the Al Palladini Community Centre both neighbouring the library, it was decided that a space specifically for teens needed to be designed.

The old circular reading lounge was chosen as the space. This area is ideal as it is on the ground floor of the library and takes advantage of the library’s north-facing windows for ample natural light.

After demolishing the old reading lounge, new carpeting was installed and electrical requirements were completed. A vast wall of glass surrounding the whole area was put in place – 22 sheets of thick glass now make up the wall of the teen lounge. Millwork was fitted to the inside and outside of the area to provide enough shelf space to hold the entire Young Adult collection.

The teen lounge is soon to be completed with the addition of booth seating around the inside edges of the space, allowing a great space for groups and leaving the centre of the space open for other uses. Two of the booths will have sound domes, allowing teens to listen to music, while not disturbing others around them.

ANSLEY GROVE LIBRARY’S REOPENING CELEBRATION, MARCH 26!

Bookmark and Share

Customers, staff and trustees of the Vaughan Public Library Board joined us for balloons, cake and refreshments on March 26 to celebrate the reopening of Ansley Grove Library, 350 Ansley Grove Road.

Ansley Grove Library’s renovations included amalgamating the two Service Desks into one, which offers a central service point for those of you seeking information, reference service or assistance from staff.

As you walk around the library you will see that lots of new pieces of merchandising furniture have been added. There are so many wonderful collections in the library that sometimes you may not know what you want to borrow, or all that Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) has to offer. These units will display popular items and collections based on different themes to help make your browsing experience easier.

On the wall to your right as you enter the library there is lots of information posted to let you know What’sOn at the Library along a vast array of library materials for you to choose from and a new indoor book return.

The self check out station is now located at the front of the library, making it easy to check out your own library items. Last but not least, we have added beautiful new carpeting in the library to give it a fresh new look.

The renovations that have been completed are in accordance with VPL’s Strategic Plan, Empower People, Inspire Opportunities, Build Communities, 2013-2015 which identifies VPL’s commitment to enhancing library space, creating welcoming environments that become exciting and vibrant destinations that appeal to customers of all ages.

Funding for this project was supported by the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund and the City of Vaughan.

Woodbridge Library Elevator Replacement

Bookmark and Share

Woodbridge Library has had an elevator since the opening of the building in 1981. Recently, we had all of the workings of the elevator replaced with new, state of the art equipment, which ensures that the elevator continues to run smoothly.  The motor, safety, and operating system have been fully upgraded.  While the cab of the elevator appears mostly unchanged, everything behind the scenes has been completely replaced, and customers will notice new operating buttons, a new floor display screen, and a much smoother trip between floors of the Woodbridge Library building.

Check out the before and after photos below.
