Heat Wave by Richard Castle

heat waveOver the past several years of watching the television series Castle, I promised myself to read at least one of Richard Castle’s many books as they were often referenced to throughout the series. Luckily, I found a copy of Heat Wave at the librarywhich is the first book of the Nikki Heat series, and ironically enough, it was the same day that I found out Castle had not been renewed for a ninth season. I was quite upset by the news over the cancellation, but I was still very interested in reading one of Richard Castle’s books.

I am very glad with my decision to read Heat Wave. It was one of those books that I cannot put down, especially when there’s a mystery that I needed to know how it plays out. So, this would be a great book for those who like mystery stories, as well as those who like a bit of humour and romance. Like the Castle series, the book’s tone is not at all dark, gloomy nor depressing.

One of the main characters, Nikki Heat, can be described as a strong feminine character, especially in her relationships and at work. I think that some readers can appreciate this powerful and realistic portrayal of a woman in today’s society. I certainly appreciated it. Although, Nikki Heat is based off of the fictional character that Richard Castle is following around in the television series, the book provides another dimension to the female character. The narrator provides a very detailed account of her personal story, background and feelings towards other characters and events. I could reveal some of the details, but I think it is better for you to discover the details while going on this journey with Nikki Heat.
