The Writer-in-Residence program at Vaughan Public Libraries supports aspiring writers through guidance, mentorship, and practical learning opportunities that strengthen skills and build confidence.
In May and June 2026, VPL welcomes award-winning author and professional writing coach Deborah Kerbel as Writer-in-Residence. Deborah will offer one-on-one consultations, manuscript critiques, workshops, and drop-in Q&A sessions for writers at all levels.
Get personalized feedback on your writing in one-on-one sessions with Deborah Kerbel, an award-winning author and professional writing coach. Each consultation session lasts 45 minutes and may be held in-person or online. No library card is required; this opportunity is open to everyone.

This fun, interactive workshop will cover how to develop the fundamental elements of your story, such as characters, setting, problem, and action. During the final part of the workshop, participants will write a scene using some of the ideas that were collectively brainstormed within the group. For grades 9 to 12.
