Week of Geek: Countdown to Fan Con continues with some Marvelous trailers

Hi again Geeklings!

Vaughan Fan Con is just over a week away.  I know, right?  Coming up so fast!  We now have our workshops for the day on Eventbrite, so take a look and see what you’d like to sign up for.  Spaces are a little limited so head on over.

Let’s continue to get our geek on by looking at some new trailers that have popped up online this last week.  First up, something spooky.  A little while ago we got our first promotional images of Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and now we have our first teaser trailer.

I think we can all agree, it looks creepy.  The devilish imagery, the witchy classes, the spooky singing of ‘Happy Birthday’.  Yup, this is going to be a Halloween treat for one and all.  Can’t wait!  This article has some descriptions of the characters if you’d like to learn a bit more.

On the opposite end of creepy, you have the latest trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, which looks utterly delightful.

Colorful, heart warming, fun.  I’m very excited to have Mary back.  Put a hold on the original movie here.

But now, the piece de resistance!  Our first trailer for next year’s Captain Marvel.

OH MY GOSH THAT LOOKS AMAZING!  Carol Danvers is all her kick-butt glory!  It’s brief but we get some really cool shots here, like younger Agents Fury and Coulson, the Skrulls (they are big bads in the Marvel universe), Jude Law as Mar-Vell.  But Brie Larson as Danvers, our first heroine to lead a Marvel film!  It just warms the heart.  But I think my favorite moment might be the first scene here, where Carol goes crashing through a particular business.  I had to remind myself that this movie is set in the 90s before that made sense.

For Captain Marvel reading I recommend starting with In Pursuit of Flight, but we have lots of other CM titles in the system as well.  And of course, don’t forget to catch up on the other MCU films.

What do we think Geeklings?  Excited for any of these?  Which one are you most excited for?  Post away in the comments.

See you next week, as we finish our countdown to Fan Con.  Take care until then, and until next time, End of Line.

How we doing Geeklings?  Ready for a little whimsy on these (hopefully) last days of winter?

Next winter (yes, I’m already talking about next winter, hear me out) we’ll have a sequel to Disney’s classic live-action animation hybrid film Mary Poppins.  Titled Mary Poppins Returns, we have a new cast, including Emily Blunt taking over from Julie Andrews for the nanny in question, but some familiar characters will be back.  And we got the first trailer this week…

The original Mary Poppins film came out in 1964, so 54 years ago, but it’s still beloved by fans young and old.

It looks like the sequel is set about 20 years after the first film, and Mary returns to siblings Jane and Michael Banks to assist with Michael’s 3 children.  Hamilton fans will be excited to note that Lin-Manuel Miranda also stars as Jack, a lamplighter who also helps with the children, similar to Dick Van Dyke‘s Bert the Chimney Sweep.  And there’s more great actors to round out the cast.

Of course, we recommend you give the original a view if you haven’t yet, but if you guys want to get really in depth there is an excellent move about the making of Mary Poppins called Saving Mr. Banks.  The original Mary Poppins books were written by author P.L. Travers, and surprisingly she had a reputation for being… difficult.  In fact wholly unpleasant.  And that certainly came to light when Disney, both the man and the company, wanted to adapt her books into film.  Saving Mr. Banks tells that story, gives a bit of Travers’ history and has a great cast, including Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney.

So get into the spirit, get some color into your life, gear up your singing voice and get excited for December.  Have a great week Geeklings, and until next time, End of Line.
