Reflecting on Racism & Discrimination: An Overview of Canadian Slavery
  • This session of our ongoing lecture series will explore various aspects of the enslaved experience in Canada. Presented by Dr. Charmaine A. Nelson, Professor of Art History and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transatlantic Black Diasporic Art and Community Engagement, Department of Art History and Contemporary Culture, NSCAD University. Session is hosted live on Zoom. Register on Eventbrite.
Fugitive slave advertisements are a source of details about the lives of the enslaved that might otherwise be lost to history, telling a story of resistance beyond the Plantation or Underground Railroad. This lecture will examine these notices, along with other archival documents, to explore various aspects of the enslaved experience in Canada.
