Vaughan Public Libraries is pleased to announce the opening of VMC Express!

VMC Express is the second of the two new libraries in the heart of Vaughan’s new downtown core. The 400 square foot library is a self-service storefront conveniently located on Apple Mill Road, and its features and self-serve model make it a first of its kind in Vaughan.

Customers can enjoy street-level access to the newest titles and popular bestsellers and quickly pick up and return their items via automated check-in and check-out machines.

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station and YRT bus terminal are a few steps away, making this an excellent access point for people on the go. It also provides convenience for local residents and complements the more extensive VMC Library on the second floor of the building.

Carville-Block 11 Library is in the Works

A new library, community centre, and district park is coming to you, located between Dufferin and Bathurst streets near Major Mackenzie Drive (Carvville/Block 11). A multi-use community hub that will combine spaces for play, learning, fitness and sports.

BACKGROUND

The 2013 Active Together Master Plan (ATMP), an integrated long-term strategy that guides planning for parks, recreation, culture and library facilities, suggested a new neighbourhood size library for Block 11 residents. The 2018 Update to ATPM suggested that the new library be collocated within a new community centre and district park.

PROCESS

Perkins+Will Architects were hired in 2017 as the Functional Program Consultants for the Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park project. The functional programming phase work to ensure that Vaughan Public Libraries’ and City of Vaughan’s requirements for the new facilities are integrated into the early design concepts and that the physical site and environmental conditions could support such requirements.

Perkins+Will Architects have been retained as the Detail Design Consultants for the Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park project and have begun detailed design work for this new facility.

We take pride in providing inclusive resources for everyone to enjoy when they enter a Vaughan library – whether it is for learning, reading or participating in our many programs”

We are pleased to receive the following message from Brad McCannell, VP, Access and Inclusion, Rich Hansen Foundation: “Congratulations to the City of Vaughan and Vaughan Public Libraries on achieving RHF Accessibility Certified Gold for three locations. Their leadership shows other municipalities across the country the advantages of developing inclusive spaces where people of all abilities can fully participate where we live, work, learn and play.”
