Hello everyone!
If you are reading this post, that means you (yes you!) are interested in attending Vaughan Fan Fest at the Civic Centre Resource Library on October 20th, and we are looking forward to having you! We’re gearing up to have a day dedicated to all things fandom, new or old; Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, Gaming and more will be highlighted throughout the day.
Cosplays are welcome (and encouraged) and if you have the skills, we will have a green screen setup for you to use. We will also have a photo booth with props available. If you have never done cosplay but want to get started, we suggest that you try these cosplay resources.
We will be running video games throughout the day; we’ll have various consoles and multi-player games ready to go for you to enjoy. In addition to video games, we will have tabletop games available as well as a scavenger hunt. STEAM activities will be available, including our button maker! Hurray! Buttons!
We’ll be starting off the day at 10 AM with a bilingual puppet show in the children’s area. The puppet show will be based off a book from the Pop Classics series of picture books. Come on by that morning to find out which one.
At 11 am there will be a Jedi Training Camp where you will complete different activities to fulfill your Jedi training and become a full-fledged Jedi. Please don’t use mind tricks learned in this training on library staff!
At 1 PM, we will have a special presentation by Stephanie Cooke on how to create a graphic novel! Although it is an all-ages presentation, it is best suited for middle graders aged 8 – 12. We have several of her publications in our collection. You can also find out more about Ms. Cooke here.
From 2 – 4, we will have D&D happening in the upstairs meeting room. Registration is limited. We will have in-person registration starting at noon until 1:30. The maximum number of players will be determined by the number of volunteers. Please arrive with a character sheet already filled out and ready to go so you can jump immediately into the campaign. If you want to get a head start on creating characters, check out some D&D resources we have in the collection.
If you don’t want to play D&D, at 3 we will have a Trivia Championship on Kahoot! Participants can join as groups or individuals and should have their own device as we cannot guarantee that we will have extras available, so make sure that you have a fully charged battery to join in the fun! If you do need to charge and forget your charger at home, there is a charging stand with limited capacity available in the branch. Bring your fandom knowledge and your enthusiasm, we hope to see you there!
We hope you’ll join us for this fandom-fueled day. Bring the whole family. Stay tuned to this post for any updates but if you have any questions in the meantime ask one of our helpful library staff members.
Stay geeky.
