Henna Design Workshop
When: Saturday, May 2 at 2 pm
Where: Civic Centre Resource Library
What is it about? Join us for an interactive henna art session with local artist Zahra Ali of Henna in the 6ix. Discover the basics of beautiful henna designs and hear Zahra’s inspiring journey as a recipient of the Summer Company student grant.
Intro to D&D
When: Sunday, May 3 from 10 am to 3 pm.
Where: Dufferin Clark Library
What is it about? Join an adventure in this play-focused introduction to Dungeons & Dragons. Experienced staff and volunteers will guide players through the game rules, character building, and a beginner-level game.
Teen Chess Tournament
When: Wednesday, May 6 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Where: Pierre Berton Resource Library
What is it about? Test your strategy in our library chess tournament! Compete against fellow players over several rounds, climb the rankings, and play for a prize. Whether you are experienced or just love the game, all are welcome.

Teen Rooms
We’ve got two dedicated teen rooms just for you at Pierre Berton Resource Library and Civic Centre Resource Library. It is Your Space. Your Vibe. These are your go-to spots to hang out, chill with friends, play games, or get some studying done (if you have to).
The Youth Gallery
Got a creative side? We’ve got the perfect place for it. This is a space where teen artists like YOU can share your work and get recognized. Check out some of the artworks shown below. Right now, it features some amazing pieces at both libraries. Want your art up there too? Yes, you totally can. We are always looking for local teen artists. Submit your work and let the community see your talents! Fill out the form.
Teen Non-Fiction Collection
We’ve just launched a brand-new teen non-fiction collection—packed with interesting, relevant, and age-appropriate reads to help you explore topics you actually care about. Look out for these special red “Teen” labels on book spines. Check it out the full collection here!

Get Ready for the Upcoming Design a Bookmark Contest!
Calling all teen artists and creative minds — VPL’s Design a Bookmark Contest is coming back by popular demand! From July 1 to August 21, 2026, you’ll have the chance to show off your art skills and create a bookmark design that could be featured at the library for everyone to see and build up your portfolio. Whether you love doodling, digital art, or anything in between, this is your time to shine. Stay tuned for full contest details and start sketching those ideas now — we can’t wait to see what you come up with! We’re so excited to see what you can create for this year’s contest and maybe your design will be the next winner!

2025 Winner – Handmade
Alyssa, age 17
Rationale: Alyssa’s remarkable submission left a lasting impression. With its compelling composition, vibrant use of colour, and rich thematic depth, Alyssa’s vision for the future of VPL shines as bold, dynamic, and full of promise. That sense of excitement is beautifully echoed in the character’s expression—capturing a moment of pure delight and surprise that invites viewers to share in the wonder of what’s to come at VPL!
2025 Winner – Digital
Riley, age 14
Rationale: Riley’s vision of a future library captured our imagination from the very beginning. An anti-gravity library filled with holographic stories and characters that reach out from the stacks? Yes, please! The judges were especially impressed by Riley’s creativity, thoughtful character development, and strong composition that brought this visually captivating bookmark to life. Riley’s work paints a future where VPL is not just cool and interactive—it’s interstellar, immersive, and fun!
