MakerFest 2025 is coming at Vaughan Public Libraries!

The Epilog laser engraver in action. See it in person during MakerFest, or by paying a visit to Pierre Berton Resource Library's Make It! space.

Guess who’s back?1 If you’re a fan of my general nerdery, this post might scratch that itch a little bit, but it’s not my standard style. I’m posting today to let you all know about Vaughan Public Libraries’ MakerFest on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Pierre Berton Resource Library. MakerFest will be a celebration of creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning that takes place in our creation spaces at Vaughan Public Libraries, as well as within the broader maker community.

This event will feature:

  • Maker Market for which we are currently recruiting vendors until August 31. You can apply here. Tables are free this year, and we’re seeking a diverse range of makers.
  • Demos of the Epilog laser engraver/cutter and Cricut machines with our Make It!2 Staff.
  • Headshots and voice analysis with Create It!3 equipment and staff. Find out if you have a voice for podcasting!
  • Build and play with Learn It!4  Our Rigamagjig Jr, and iPads with fun and educational apps will be available for drop-in play.
  • A talk and demonstration from VEX robotics club Caution Tape Robotics.
  • A musical performance and talk from Pink Moth, who has used our creation spaces to help create his albums.
  • A button-making station with special MakerFest images.
  • And more! I’ll be editing this post as we get closer to the 20th, so check in here once in a while. You can also check the event page on our website or watch for our marketing for further updates.
The Film and Photography Studio, part of Create It! at Civic Centre Resource Library, will be represented by a Headshot booth at MakerFest

If you’re not familiar with our creation spaces, visit our Share It site to learn about the equipment through our online courses, some of which are prerequisites for booking the associated machines. You can then fill out the customer agreement form and book time on the device or in the space of your choice. If you’re just starting your maker lifestyle, this’s your first time using VPL’s equipment, or if you have some questions about a project you’re working on, you can contact one of our digital creation specialists to ask about the process and machines. Of course, all three spaces will be represented at MakerFest, so come out to the event to get a taste of all of them under one roof!

A child plays with an OSMO game in Bathurst Clark Resource Library's Learn It! space. Never played? Come to MakerFest to try if you can't make it to BCRL.

If you enjoy learning through programs, our events calendar can be filtered to “Make It! Create It! Learn It!” to give you a bird’s-eye view of what’s going on in and around the spaces.

And that’s it from me for this brief brief. We hope to see you at MakerFest!

  1. I can hear the collective groaning. ↩︎
  2. Make It, housed in Pierre Berton Resource Library, is our fabrication space, where customers can utilize a sublimation printer, Cricut, heat presses, and other devices. Additionally, we offer 3D printing services on our Ultimaker and cutting and engraving options on our Epilogue laser cutter. Interested in being a maker? Make It is the space for you! And it’s also the host of MakerFest. ↩︎
  3. Create It, a physical space in our Civic Centre Resource Library, is our digital creation studio, comprising the Film and Photography Room and our Recording Studio. Are you a content creator just getting started on your journey? Create It is your new favourite place in Vaughan. You can book 3D printing services here too, on a Bambu Lab printer. ↩︎
  4. Learn It, a dedicated space in the Bathurst Clark Resource Library, is our children’s makerspace, offering programs that utilize fabrication devices such as an Ultimaker 3D printer, Cricut, and sublimation printer, as well as coding and digital literacy programs for kids. There are also copious amounts of STEAM toys available for use in the branch, and even more that you can access with a library card. Young learners at any age and stage of their digital literacy journey are welcome in Learn It. ↩︎
