We are thrilled to announce the winners and runner ups of our 2025 Design a Bookmark Contest! We’d like to thank all our participants for their submissions and for showcasing their creativity, talent and love for libraries.
The two winning bookmarks will be printed and available across VPL this Fall. Congratulations to our winners!

Winner: Handmade
Alyssa, Age 17
Alyssa’s remarkable submission left a lasting impression. With its compelling composition, vibrant use of colour, and rich thematic depth, Alyssa’s vision for the future of VPL shines as bold, dynamic, and full of promise. That sense of excitement is beautifully echoed in the character’s expression—capturing a moment of pure delight and surprise that invites viewers to share in the wonder of what’s to come at VPL!

Runner Up: Handmade
Lina, Age 12
The more you explore Lina’s bookmark, the more layers of meaning and detail you discover. The judges were truly impressed by the innovative interpretation of a future library landscape. Lina’s meticulous attention to detail, thoughtful thematic exploration, and distinctive artistic vision set her work apart as exceptional, while inviting imagination and discovery.

Riley, Age 14
Riley’s vision of a future library captured our imagination from the very beginning. An anti-gravity library filled with holographic stories and characters that reach out from the stacks? Yes, please! The judges were especially impressed by Riley’s creativity, thoughtful character development, and strong composition that brought this visually captivating bookmark to life. Riley’s work paints a future where VPL is not just cool and interactive—it’s interstellar, immersive, and fun!

Runner Up: Digital
Sarah, Age 14
We all loved Sarah’s cozy bookmark instantly. Its light and airy atmosphere, harmonious use of colour, and enraptured portrayal of library visitors truly resonated with the team. It beautifully captures the essence of a library—familiar and welcoming—while seamlessly weaving in modern enhancements.
