Canadians in Space!!

by Vee  | Category: Pop Culture, What's Going On

Hey guys!  Soooo, considering the fact that today may be making history in the world of hockey for Maple Leaf fans I feel I must first begin this post with a hup hup horrrrrrrrrrrrahhhhhhh!!!  And a GO LEAFS GO!!!!  Fingers crossed they beat the Bruins in game 7!!

Annnnnnnd, back to what I wanted to talk about for today cause it is living, breathing, epic awesomeness.

Yesterday marked the final day of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield’s command of the International Space Station.  For those of you who have been all “Meh, space.  yeah, we’ve been to the moon.  Whatevs”, I’m afraid you’ve been sadly mislead.

While all the space agencies around the world have been trying to figure out ways to encourage the worlds’ interest once more in space, all they had to do was get a 53 year old Canadian with a boss mustache and away we go!

Hadfield left Earth on December 19. 2012, arrived at the ISS – meaning International Space Station for those of you who can’t read awesome – on December 21, and became the first Canadian to command the ISS.  And over the next few months he did what all the fancy space agencies have been trying to do – he made space cool.

Clickie HERE to read a cool article about stuff that Hadfield’s done and get your GO CANADA vibe on.

And to be even more cool, Hadfield has also shared with us his final goodbye from space in a glorious video:

Chris is returning to Earth today, with live coverage starting at 3:50pm….seriously people – he is going to be burning through our atmosphere in a few short hours. Could this be any more epic?? I think not. More news on Hadfield and his awesomeness HERE

And if this has got anyone in the mood for space books:
172 Hours on the Moon, Ender’s Game, Old Man’s War, Starship Troopers, Across the Universe

Divergent – the MOVIE

by Vee  | Category: Pop Culture, Randomness

Heya buck-Os! (and buck-Es, don’t worry, I didn’t forget you!)
Well, for those of you who are up and current with all the news and buzz about the Hollywood-side of our beloved YA books, Divergent has released its cast along with the first few stills of the upcoming movie. Read more here.

And for those who of you aren’t that in the know with modern happenings, the final book in the trilogy has been named – Allegiant will conclude the dystopian trilogy and is supposed to hit the shelves on October 22nd…not that long a wait, but still.

Hopefully the final book redeems itself as I was sorely disappointed with book 2 – more specifically, with Tris.  That girl took a downward turn that spiraled waaaaaayyyy down into the lower depths of pathetic charaters.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Tris has now gotten some sense knocked into her.  We shall see.

Anywho, to ends things on a fun note, look at this!!

Wuv, twu wuv!

Well how ya doin sportsfans??
I’m actually rather curious how many people get that reference – anyone? Anyone? I’ll give you a hint: Hugs and Tugs.

Anywho, I’ve decided to write something about a very prominent topic that’s been floating around the world wide web for a while now, and has recently been doing a big facebook awareness campaign over the last couple of days…Maybe some of you saw this picture in your newsfeeds lately?

Well, in case you weren’t aware, there’s a big hurrah going on about marriage equality and gay rights. My own personal view is why governments should have anything to say about people’s individual relationships in the first place, I just don’t know…People love each other and want to get married, let ‘em! =)

Anywho, so I recently came across this post and I just positively lurvvvv it!!!

And again – who got that reference????? Ok, those who give up and need to be told the answer click HERE.

And best actress is… Jennifer Lawrence! Seriously, she’s just so cool.

So I don’t know how many of yous guys watched the Oscars last Sunday, but  I sure did.  It’s just always so much fun – it’s this weird event where you get this very strange glimpse into a crazy life that is never going to be in my own.  And the dresses!! *le sigh*

Anywho, for those of you who didn’t catch it, our lovely girl Jennifer Lawrence – of Silver Linings Playbook, the Hunger Games, X-Men First Class and Winter’s Bone – was nominated and won best actress.  And fell going up the steps to accept her award.

This girl is just plain awesome – she’s always super humble and so down to earth, it’s really refreshing watching her in interviews compared to most of what you get from twinkletown these days…

Sooo, after the Oscars there’s always a mini press conference so that they can – obviously – question the winners and get a scoop on their thoughts and stuff – and this was Jennifer’s press conference after the Oscars:

Love her!!

Welcome to Disneyland, may the Force be with you!

Alright peoples, originally I was going to be all “Happy Halloween” for today’s post for obvious reasons, however there was a very important, critical, and EARTH SHAKING announcement that went out to the world yesterday.  For those of you who (yet again) find themselves in the dark as to what this positively insane piece of world news is, let me enlighten you.

Breathe.

Disney.
Has bought.
Lucasfilms.

Which means that Disney now OWNS Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and a bunch more!   But more importantly, DISNEY OWNS STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And apparently episodes VII, VIII, IX are in the books with Episode VII due out in 2015.

GAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIND = BLOWN!!!!!!!!!
