Vaughan Public Libraries

Homebound Access

Homebound people often rely on their spouse or caregiver, friends, or neighbours, to bring them materials from the library. VPL makes it easier for anyone who borrows library materials on behalf of a homebound person. The homebound person will be issued a VPL membership card that will be linked to the Homebound services on the Library's computer system. The homebound library user will then have access through their spouse, neighbour, or other nominee to the following services:

  • Longer loan periods
  • No Fines or overdue items
  • Flexibility in day, time, and frequency of visits
  • Record of homebound borrower's Reading Preferences
  • Printed list of borrowed items
  • Rating system to assist those selecting materials
  • Qualified Library staff to assist with selection of materials

If you would like to know more about this service, please contact your local branch at 905-653-READ (7323).

Internet Access

All Libraries have workstations which provide the public with free access to the Internet. Use of the Internet is on a first-come, first-served basis - there is no advance booking. Users may use the computers for 30 minutes. While using the Internet in each of the branches, library users are expected to read and abide by the VPL Internet Policy.

Word Processing

VPL provides free access to computers equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. The workstations are provided for the public on a self-serve basis. Library staff may provide limited assistance, if time permits, but are not able to provide training on the use of PCs or the software. Use of the word processing stations is on a first-come, first-served basis.

In order to save their work, library users are encouraged to bring a CD or USB drive, or purchase one from the library (see Service Charges). Files cannot be saved to the computers' hard drives.

Vaughan Public Libraries assumes no responsibility for computer viruses that may have been introduced to the workstations.

Printing

Printing is available at a cost of $0.15 per page. Colour printing is not available.

Children's CD-ROMs

All VPL branches provide educational CD-ROM games and software for children to use in-library. Children may only use one CD-ROM at a time.

Photocopiers

Black and white photocopiers are available in each of our local branches.

Colour photocopiers are available at the Bathurst Clark Resource Library and Pierre Berton Resource Library.

Book a Meeting Room

Many branches have meeting rooms available for use. See applicable charges.

Exhibit Space

VPL believes in providing access to cultural opportunities in the community by making exhibit space available to artists and community groups. Interested groups are encouraged to submit a completed Application for Exhibit Space form to their preferred library location.

Applicants may be asked to submit samples of their work before approval. Exhibit space will be allocated based on availability and identification of suitable display space at the discretion of VPL.
