Vaughan Public Libraries
The Books by Mail service offered by Vaughan Public Libraries is a new and convenient service provided to all members of Vaughan Public Libraries. Books by Mail allows customers to borrow items from our collection which will be delivered through the mail. Customers can borrow any circulating library materials (Books, DVDs, CDs or audio books).

How do I use the Books by Mail service?

Requests through the Books by Mail service can be made on our online form. Items from the collection may also be requested in person at any Vaughan Public Libraries location or over the telephone by calling 905-653-7323. For in library and telephone requests, please inform information staff that you want the item/s sent through the mail. Customers should note that all requested items through this service will be delivered through the mail only. Items may not be picked up at a Branch location. Information staff should be notified if customers wish to terminate use of this service.

Who can use the Books by Mail service?

In order to qualify for this service, you must have a Vaughan Public Libraries card with an account in good standing. Deliveries will not be made to customers if there are charges on library accounts exceeding $10.00 or if a library card has blocks such as address verification.

How long can I borrow items?

All items may be borrowed for a maximum of 4 weeks at any one time. Enclosed with the item/s is a letter indicating the due date. Only one renewal with an additional four week borrowing period is allowed as long as the borrowed item/s have not been requested by another customer. Items can be renewed through the telephone, in person at the Information desk or by email.

Will I accrue fines if I return the items late?

Postmarked items or items returned to the library after the due date will accrue fines. Overdue fines for DVDs are $2.00 per day to a maximum of $10.00 per card and other items are .25c per day to a maximum of $4.00 per item.

How do I return materials?

Items can be repackaged and sent back through the mail in the pre-paid package with the return label affixed or returned either at the circulation desk or book drop at any Vaughan Public Libraries location.

Is there a limit to the number of items I may request by mail?

Customers can borrow a maximum of five (5) items at any one time.

Is there a fee for Books by Mail?

The fee for this service is $6.00.

After selecting items for delivery through the Books by Mail service, customers will receive within 1 business day, a confirmation email from library staff directing them to Pay Pal to complete the transaction.

Once the library confirms that payment has been received, the items are checked out to the customer's library card, packaged, and placed in the mail.

Damaged or lost items

Customers are responsible for damaged or lost items.

How long will it take?

Items listed as available will be sent out in about seven days. Items on a waiting list will be sent out when available as part of customer queue.
