Vaughan Public Libraries
Kids who read — succeed! In cooperation with VPL, volunteers and parents can work together to help children between the ages of 7 - 12 improve their reading skills.

Volunteer to Help Children Become Better Readers

VPL matches children with Reading Buddies for weekly sessions of reading practice in the library. Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of one hour per week for 10 weeks, plus training time.

Students can earn a Community Service Credit by volunteering as a Reading Buddy. To register, return the completed form below to any VPL branch. For more information, call 905-653-READ (7323) or drop by your local branch and ask to speak to a Youth Services Librarian.

Register Your Child for Reading Practice

Your child will be matched up with a qualified volunteer, and they will meet weekly for one hour over 10 weeks. During that hour, the volunteer will use books, CD-ROMs and reading games to give your child the practice he or she needs and, in particular, to share the fun of reading.

To register your child for reading practice, complete the form below and return it to any branch of VPL. For more information, speak with a Youth Services Librarian at any VPL branch.
