Wee Wednesday!

I’ve had a cold this week but luckily my storytime friends were great singers and helped me out!

This week at Ready to Read we read… (click the picture to put a hold on the book!)

red2 Red is Best by Kathy Stinson

This is a long time favourite book of mine (probably because my favourite colour is red!). We talked about our favourite colours before reading this fun story about a little girl who thinks that everything in red is best. Her juice? Tastes better in her red cup! Her red mittens? Much better for making snowballs! This is a book both children and their exasperated parents can relate to.

kittensThree Little Kittens by Paul Galdone

This cute rhyming story about kittens is a familiar one. In this version by Paul Galdone, there are only a few words per page which makes it ideal for reading to young people.

Speaking of mittens… this month and through January at VPL we’re celebrating reading by putting paper mittens up around our branches. Children are invited to write their name on the mittens and add a sticker to their mitten for every five books read. Find out what else is going on at VPL during Winterlights by checking out our events page.

winterWinter Lullaby by Barbara Seuling

This hibernation story has great rhythm and beautiful illustrations. It asks where animals go when it gets cold and gives the answer on the next page. The children at my storytime had fun guessing where the animals might go (and were often correct!). In a few months, check out the companion book - Spring Song.
